Upcoming small cars in India in 2012

The economic slowdown and the sluggish car industry did not keep the car manufacturers from launching new models. In fact , the new car launches are slated more than ever before with the hope to woo the customers who are on a constant look out for fresher models. Moreover, a positive growth in the car industry is on the cards, if we are to go by the predictions by the market experts. The year 2012 is expected to see a substantial number of cars to be launched, out of which around 12 hatchbacks, 14 sedans, 10 SUVs, 6 MPVs and 3 Super cars are lined-up to offer a wide range of choice to the consumers.

While there are many brand new car launches, there are quite a few face-lifts as well with the car manufacturers making an attempt to pose a threat with the revamped versions of their existing line-up. The year is to mark a new beginning to many auto giants, like for example luxury car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz to take a plunge into hatchback segment with its B-Class hatchback. Renault India hopes to create a strong impression in the consumers minds by banking on the common-platform sharing concept between Renault-Nissan  in India. The A segment of the car industry, the segment which basically comprises of the low-cost hatchbacks in India will see thediesel variants of Maruti Wagon R at around Rs 4 lakhs and Tata Nano at Rs 2.25 lakhs, new Maruti 800, now meeting the latest emission norms at Rs 2.0 lakhs and the cheapest small car from the German car manufacturer Volkswagen, with Up! at Rs 3.5 lakhs.

There are however ample options in the B segment cars with hatchback version of Ford Fiesta at Rs 7 lakhs, Renault Pulse sharing the V-platform of Nissan Micra at Rs 6 lakhs, all-new Hyundai i20 at Rs 5-Rs 8 lakhs, yet another small car from General Motors, Chevrolet Sonic to be placed a notch  above Spark and Beat at Rs 5 lakhs, another hatchback from Renault after Pulse, the Renault Sandero at Rs 5 lakhs and Skoda Fabia Scout hatchback to wrap up the long list of launches in the B segment at Rs 7 lakhs. The sparsely inhabited  premium hatchback segment will witness addition of two more small cars from Mercedes Benz as mentioned in form of Mercedes Benz B-class and a new entity from another luxury brand BMW, with  BMW Mini at Rs 25 lakhs.
