Skoda India is offering attractive cash discounts on variants of the Laura diesel manual. The cash discounts range from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 70,000 depending on the variant. The offer is valid till December 25th 2011. Unlike many other car makers who offer discounts only for petrol cars, Skoda has offered a discount on the Laura diesel which is a pleasant surprise for potential buyers.
dwsAuto spoke to Skoda dealers from across the country to bring you the exact details of the offer. As per dealers, the Laura Ambition variant gets a cash discount of Rs. 50,000 bringing down its price to Rs. 13.73 lakh from Rs. 14.23 lakh. The Laura Elegance variant gets a cash discount of Rs. 70,000 bringing down its price to Rs. 15.05 lakh from Rs. 15.75 lakh. Let’s see if these cash discounts give the Laura an edge over its competition.
Skoda Laura vs. Volkswagen Jetta
The Laura Ambition variant with an offer price of Rs. 13.73 lakh is Rs. 47,000 cheaper than the Volkswagen Jetta Trendline priced at Rs. 14.2 lakh. Both the cars are similarly equipped though the Jetta comes with front curtain airbags as well.
With regard to the top-end variants, the Laura Elegance with an offer price of Rs. 15.05 lakh is priced Rs. 65,000 lower than the Jetta Comfortline which is priced at Rs. 15.70 lakh. Despite the lower price, the Laura Elegance comes with dual zone climatronic, odour filter, pollen filter, leather seat upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel, gear knob, brake lever and heated front seats. These features are not available on the Jetta Comfortline. Hence, the Laura Elegance is a more value for money option than the Jetta Comfortline.
Skoda Laura vs. Chevrolet Cruze
The Laura Ambition variant with an offer price of Rs. 13.73 lakh is still priced Rs. 8,000 more than the fully loaded Chevrolet Cruze LTZ variant which is priced at Rs. 13.65 lakh. The Cruze LTZ, despite its low price, comes with leather seats, sunroof and cruise control but lacks traction control, mechanical brake assist and anti-slip regulation which are features offered in the Laura Ambition.
The Laura Ambition is a better choice as it offers more safety features at a premium of only Rs.8,000. But, if comfort features are important, the Cruze LTZ comes with more comfort features at a slightly lesser price making it better ‘value for money’ than the Laura Ambition.
Skoda Laura vs. Toyota Corolla Altis
The Laura Ambition variant with an offer price of Rs. 13.73 lakh is priced Rs. 18,000 more than the Toyota Corolla Altis G variant priced at Rs. 13.55 lakh. Though priced lower, the Corolla Altis G variant comes with an in-dash DVD touch screen audio system with Bluetooth, six speakers, steering mounted audio controls & a MID (multi-information display) switch on steering wheel which are not available on the Laura Ambition. Hence, the Corolla Altis G is a better ‘value for money’ option than the Laura Ambition.
When we compare the top-end variants, the Laura Elegance with an offer price of Rs. 15.05 lakh is Rs. 32,000 more than the Corolla Altis GL variant priced at Rs. 14.73 lakh. Both the cars have features that are at par with each other. However, the Laura Elegance comes with heated seats, dual zone climatronic, odour filter, pollen filter, parking sensors, traction control, mechanical brake assistant and anti-slip regulation which are not offered in the Corolla Altis GL.
Summing up, with regard to price, the Corolla Altis G is better than the Laura Ambition but the Laura Ambition offers more safety features and looks more attractive than the Corolla Altis GL.
Skoda Laura vs. Renault Fluence
The offer price of Laura Elegance (Rs. 15.05 lakh) makes it Rs. 55,000 pricier than the Fluence E4, top-end diesel variant, priced at Rs. 14.5 lakh. Despite the lower pricing, the Fluence E4 offers cruise control, automatic headlamps and Bluetooth connectivity and chest airbags for the front occupants which are not available in the Laura Elegance.
The Laura Elegance has a slight edge in terms of safety as it comes with a host of safety features such as MBA (Mechanical Brake Assistant), ASR (Anti Slip Regulation) and TCS (Traction Control System). Overall, if comfort features are taken as priority, the Fluence E4 is a more ‘value for money’ proposition than the Laura Elegance.
